Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City is official

Those in need of a co-op zombicidal action fix can now rejoice, as the daddy of video game zombies returns to where it all began with Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City.

It’s 1998 and players are thrown into the boots of a team member flying the Umbrella Security Services flag, sent in by the big, evil corporation to cover up the T-Virus outbreak. This means that you’ll have to merrily mow down the crawling dead and survivors alike in order to prevent the news from breaking.

Also in the mix is a U.S. Special Forces team sent in to undo all of your hard work and expose any evidence they can find, making the fight a three way onslaught between you, them and the gurgling bio-weapon zombie monsters.

You can play the game by yourself with AI buddies or find four real friends to make the experience a bit more of a social one.

Also promised are familiar faces and iconic locations from previous titles in this “new direction for the Resident Evil series”.

Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City will make its way to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this winter.

The announcement of this new Resi game follows on from news last week that Resident Evil 4 and Code: Veronica X will be appearing on XBLA and PSN in gory HD marvel.
