Steam launches creativity software storefront

Once you’ve snatched up every daily deal and played more Steam games than should technically be possible, where is there to go next? The answer, of course, is Valve’s initiative to move beyond games and into the wide world of software at large. Now the tools to help you patch together your own game are sitting patiently in the Steam store, side by side with Source Filmmaker and the Steam-Workshop-enabled GameMaker: Studio (both free of charge). Here’s the range of products up for sale right now:

  • 3D-Coat
  • ArtRage Studio Pro
  • 3DMark Vantage
  • 3DMark 11
  • CameraBag 2

According to Valve, plenty of these tools will take advantage of Steamworks and all the perks that go along with it, including Steam Cloud support. Those of you who are smart and/or creative have a big reason to poke around Steam some more, and if you plan on diving into this brave new world, now is a good time; each piece of software will be ten percent off through the rest of this week.
