Predictions going in: a little hard to judge this time. The new subscription level of PSN played up like it’s a good thing is probably a given. Other than that? I’m curious how down played the failure of the PSP Go will be or if they’ll take their lumps and just admit it. Please don’t be as Move focused as the Microsoft was Kinect.

It seems to me that online game play can bear a monthly subscription (something as affordable as $50/year), and knowing that all of the server infrastructure costs Sony a ton, I’m surprised that they haven’t imposed a charge yet. Free online play is a good marketing tool, but I don’t often hear consumers say “I bought a PS3 because PSN is free”. Everyone likes free services, but more often, I hear people say “I bought a 360 because of Xbox Live”. I think that demonstrates that people will pay a modest amount for value-added services, and Microsoft keeps adding value. Sony gives a ton of value for free, but the company isn’t so profitable that it can afford to be magnanimous forever.

Drum Hero: Again, a game for Move. Pretty much what you’d expect; you air drum using the Move controllers as drumsticks. However, the PlayStation Eye is also required to play this game so that it can judge your level of excitement and satisfaction. Whenever Drum Hero decides that you’re getting a genuine sense of achievement from what you’re doing, it switches the PS3 off. This leaves you staring at your reflection on the TV screen mid – drum, wondering what the hell you’re doing with your life, and whether it isn’t perhaps time to go and find a girlfriend.

“The device itself has the appearance of a chunky microphone with a neon coloured top, making it look like a cross between a raver’s glostick and a pervert’s sex toy.”
