Battlefield 3 Back to Karkand trailer shows off Gulf of Oman

An explosive new trailer for the upcoming Battlefield 3 DLC Back to Karkand has broken from cover and stormed onto the frontlines of the Internet.

The trailer takes us on a tour of the Gulf of Oman map, an urban playground of destruction with plenty of buildings that seem eager to crumble with each hard impact. We also get to see some of the new vehicles in action, including the STVOL jet which is capable of vertical take-offs and hovering.

Gulf of Oman joins Strike at Karkand, Wake Island and Sharqi Peninsula in the soon-to-be-available DLC package that arrives next month. The pack also features weapons and vehicles returning from Battlefield 2, as well as the Conquest Assault game mode.

A release date for Back to Karkand is yet to be revealed other than December 2011, with PlayStation 3 players getting access to it a week earlier than players on other platforms. It will be free for owners of the Limited Edition version of the game, whereas regular edition holders will need to pay 1,200 MS Points or $15 depending on your platform. You can find out more information about the pack here.

Last week it was also confirmed that PlayStation 3 players of Battlefield 3 could claim a free copy of Battlefield 1943.
