Assassin’s Creed 3 E3 trailer and gameplay demo

Assassin’s Creed 3 was another highlight from the Ubisoft E3 conference as the gameplay demo showed off a nice chunk of action unlike any other game in the series. The CG trailer above was good too, but not unlike the kind of thing we’ve seen before.

Check out the gameplay demo below for the real meat of the Assassin’s Creed 3 presentation. It starts off with new assassin protagonist Connor running through the trees with the same grace and ease as Ezio and Altair have at crossing rooftops. He then kills some animals before strolling into a small camp to complete and pick up some quests.

One of the camp dwellers mentions a heavily guarded British fort ahead, which is exactly where Connor decides he must go. After a bit more tree leaping we get a look at some proper combat against people. Starting the fight with some sort of crazy noose weapon, Connor goes on to axe the remaining soldiers in typical Assassin’s Creed fashion. Counter kills still look like the order of the day, but things change a little bit when Connor grabs a soldier just in time to catch the volley of bullets flying his way.

Having infiltrated the fort we get a close-up of our British target, just as he sips a tiny cup of tea. It definitely doesn’t feel like we’re being painted as a nation of tea drinking evil doers, does it? After a bit more parkour and on-the-move killing the demo ends with Connor sinking a bayonet into his target’s chest.

The open environments in the demo reminded us a lot of Red Dead Redemption, although we’re not sure just how open these areas will be just yet. Even though Ubisoft are keeping some elements of previous Assassin’s Creed games, there are enough new ideas here to keep us very interested. We’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on this one in the months leading up to its October 31 release for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
