Recovering your trophies post – crash: some lost forever?

It was widely presumed (us included, we confess) that the worldwide crash of PS3 ‘fat’ models was due to a fault with the PlayStation Network. As reported by Playstation Lifestyle however, the crash was actually down to a bizarre issue with the internal clock in original PS3 models, where they presume that every even year is a leap year. This is why as of 00:00 GMT 02/03/10, all affected models have recovered. All your games will now work, and you can now sign back in to PSN. But what about recovering your lost trophies?

If you tried to play any trophy enabled games yesterday then not only will the game probably have refused to load, but that game will have disappeared from your trophy list. Well all you need to do is to insert the relevant disc(s) and, when the game has finished loading, it will appear in your trophy list again – at 0%. But don’t panic. Just sync your trophy collection with the server, and all trophies in your collection when you last synced will reappear.

However.

Speaking from personal experience, it seems that some trophies may be lost permanently. Our editor found that after re – syncing, three of his Bioshock 2 online trophies – all earned within the hour before the system crash – were still missing (kill a Big Daddy, complete a Trial, win a non – private match). Worse still, despite meeting the requirements a second time post – crash, the trophies would not unlock again. Previously unearned trophies could still be awarded, however. Is this situation unique to Bioshock 2 online trophies? Have you found any of your trophies to be unrecoverable? Leave a comment and let us know.

I had a similar(ish) problem a while back with burnout paradise, I was on 70% completion and I was unlocking trophies like the B license and then the A but I couldn’t unlock the previous licenses as I already had them, also having smashed more billboards, gates etc. than what the trophies required also meant I couldn’t unlock those either. So I deleted my save and started again, you may find yourself in a similar predicament with Bioshock 2, your subsequent kills are possibly over the requirement for a trophy unlock.

And I also lost my 100% complete trophies for Assassins Creed 2 yesterday and I couldn’t play it either..

Don’t freakout Oni, just put AC2 in let it load, exit, then re-sync your trophies list and BA-DOOM! AC2 trophies are back. I had the same problem too, and I FE-REIKED when my Fallout 3 ones vanished. Got them back too the same way though. Phew, panic over peole. Move allong, there’s nothing to see here…

Let us hope that when they (hopefully) launch their PSN+ with cloud saves, and other services that situations like this can’t happen again.

Then again, perhaps Im just being optimistic.

And why should I have to pay more to get a system that doesn’t go down on me anyway?!

    Im Grumpy.

Nah, I wouldn’t say you’re wrong for thinking even a free service shouldn’t be looked after properly. If that were the attitude of the NHS then just imagine the mess it would be…

      … Uh, nevermind.

Lost a couple of FFXIII (JPN) trophies. Of more concern is the save file that has vanished into thin air, along with about 4 hours worth of game time. Weren’t able to connect to PSN for the week before the problems (seperate trouble with wireless router), which may have something to do with the missing save and trophies, as they hadnt been synced for a few days. Oh well.
