Sony has now released PS3 Firmware Update 3.01.

According to Eric Lempel (who has been receiving a lot of flak over the lame 3.00 update), “Hi everyone, PS3 system software update 3.01 is now available for download. This is an optional update that improves system stability during use of some PlayStation 3 format software.”

This begs the question as to whether its a real update or a placebo update similar to what happens on those drugs trials you can go on. After all, surely if it actually fixes something it would be mandatory? Oh well, lets just hope they don’t have to release a 3.02 to fix 3.01.
