Not so Modern Warfare
With the recent sackings at Infinity Ward, and the worrying press release that three new Call of Duty games are being developed, and that Activision are looking at “new digital business models” (subscriptions?) for the franchise, the question is where does the money making war machine go from here?
Grumpy Gurevitz: Overload!
2009 according to many, was a light year when it came to ‘big’ and quality releases. This perception is mainly due to the latter half of the year being dominated by Modern Warfare 2. However the rest of the year was alive with interesting, high quality and fun titles for all the platforms.
DJ Hero: review
A great DJ can effortlessly mix track after track into a fluid set list, and most importantly, can mesmerise and hold the attention of the crowd despite doing little more than standing behind a set of decks. Individuals like Grandmaster Flash and Jazzy Jeff have mastered this craft and know exactly how to get the most out of the turntable. DJ Hero does not quite reach such rarefied heights, but it does make a highly entertaining attempt.
Grumpy Gurevitz: Why I fear the one box solution
Recently there has been a spate of predictions that we will soon see the end of the console war, with us being presented with a platform which either supports multiple operating systems, or which is an open platform. The argument is, eventually all publishers and developers will support this as their primary development platform. The other method by which the prediction might come true is that we also might still end up using different platforms, but via a a control box which then accesses the games via the great server in the sky, otherwise known as Cloud computing.

You can file this news strictly under the rumour category, but Destructoid reckon Modern Warfare 2 developers Infinity Ward are beginning work on a Call of Duty MMO. Reports began to spring up yesterday that Activision are likely to pass on the next entry in the global smash hit series to another developer (Treyarch are busy working on another Call of Duty title themselves, rumoured to be set in Vietnam).
IWNet – A PC Gamers lament
When Infinity Ward first announced IWNet there was uproar in the land of PC gaming. Dedicated servers have been the focus of PC multiplayer gaming for many years, with communities being formed around them. When the latest mod or custom map pack is released, dedicated servers always spring up to support and expand the game from its native iteration, allowing a degree of customization and democracy that console games still lack.

When it isn’t challenging your morals or way of life, Modern Warfare 2 plays out like the most intense summer action movie of all time.
Grumpy Gurevitz: Call to a New Console! Modern Stupidity
Buying a console is not as easy as it used to be, or as it should be.
In the old days we didn’t have backwards compatibility to worry about. Nor did we really have to worry about ‘content’ and save games as the consoles either didn’t offer it or it was a simple case of buying a cheap memory card.
Daily Mail attacks Modern Warfare 2

Reports surfaced recently that Infinity Ward’s latest blockbuster places you in the shoes of a counter terrorist agent who may have to gun down civilians in order to infiltrate a terror group. Unsurprisingly this has led to some controversy and today, to the surprise of absolutely no-one, The Daily Mail threw in their reasonable and not at all judgemental and ignorant opinion.
