Bend over and take your pricing

To recap: if you complained about Modern Warfare 2′s pricing and paid so much as a single penny more than you usually would upon release, you’re stupid. If you complained about the PS3′s release price but still paid it, you’re stupid. If you’re complaining about the Xbox Live Gold price hikes but have already resigned yourself to paying them, you’re stupid. If none of this applies to you, don’t worry. I do not doubt for a second that I could find several examples in your purchase history that would emphatically prove to my satisfaction that you are stupid.

For any child of the 80s the name Transformers will mean something to them. To every parent of the 80s it will probably mean something as well, just not in as positive a way. There have been countless animated incarnations based on the 80s cartoon that started it all and there has also been games. The most recent games were based on the Michael Bay movies – perhaps predictably meaning that they were terrible. Now High Moon Studios is trying to set a different trend with a Transformers game that isn’t tied to anything.

MCM Expo: Transformers – War for Cybertron Hands-on

Transformers traditionally in the world of gaming can be described as little other than disappointing. A series about robots that can turn into cars, tanks and jet fighters on paper sounds like a perfect match for our electronic past-time. But despite a slew of Transformers games over the years, they have been mostly awful, with the 2004 PS2 transformers game being a rare highpoint.

The house that made Project Gotham Racing and Geometry Wars has more or less crafted a mix of the two – a high-quality racing game with a fireworks display of weapons and power-ups. The side-effect of this diabolical union is a need for chaos that only human opponents can provide.

Pachter: Bungie “sounded quite happy” with Activision deal during conversation; potential 20% profit margin for Activision

I just spoke with Activision and with the Bungie guys about their deal. While there were no specific details provided beyond the press release, it’s clear that this is a publishing partnership and not a distribution arrangement. That means that instead of normal distribution margins of around 10%, the deal probably allows Activision to participate in profit upside, suggesting that their margins could end up between 15 – 20% if a future Bungie game sells a crazy number of units.

Taking a closer look at the fine-print of the deal between Activision and Bungie announced earlier today, trade site MCV comes to the conclusion that this doesn’t necessarily mean an end to Bungie and Microsoft collaborations or indeed further Halo titles.
